Diet: The Elephant in the Room
Since my blog is focused on cardiac health and eating for heart wellness, weight loss is likely a side effect unless you’re already fit. Then, of course, there’s the diabetes question. Most people who enter cardiac rehabilitation or decide to exercise in their later years do so because their bodies are older and things can be difficult, but when it comes to diet, we have much more control. Now, I don’t like to use the word “diet” as a restrictive method; I’m using it definitively to mean what you eat—your daily intake.
To be humbly honest, I have found that with most plans, the problem isn’t the plan itself—it’s sticking to one that works for you. In my case, moderation is my plan. I’ve struggled with my weight for the past 25 years and, as a recovering heart patient, I try my best alongside my medication to eat right.
I have recently started again to improve my health for mobility purposes as I’m getting older. The things I’ve found that work for me—when I stick to them—are:
- Eating moderately
- Cutting out snacks
- Lowering sodium intake drastically
- Cutting down on carbs and increasing protein
My motivator this time around is attempting this blog again with recipes I know work for me.
As I said, it only works if I stick to it, so this blog is my motivation. It gives me a way to think about proper diet and exercise. I will try to provide references to my research here and there as well. That’s all for today—I need to add another recipe to the recipe book and go from there.
Have an awesome day, eat right, and may the health be with you!
